A Place in the Sun

Today, while listening to music on YouTube, I happened across the song called "A Place in the Sun" by Chris Child. And, for the first time in far too long, I was struck by the slightly painful lightening bolt more commonly known as "Inspiration". Of course, that inspiration came in the form of a music video in my head, one which won't be realized until I have a team of epic CG animators at my command. Or until they make a device that transfers imagination directly to a video file. Whichever comes first.

Anyway! I knew that it would bug me to no end (like every other music video I wish I could make..) so I decided to draw a scene from it. This is how the picture above came to be in a remarkably short time. I actually did it in one sitting, which is very nearly unheard of when it comes to my more detailed works. It came out just as I wanted, too..

So the music video was a woman (with the red hair, and yes she's the same as in my picture of "Death") playing a piano and singing the song while a doll lays in a birdcage on top of the piano. Sunlight is streaming in through the window, but is also speckled with fast-moving clouds outside. When it shines on the woman, it reveals that her appearance is an illusion, and she's really just a skeleton, or perhaps a ghost manipulating her own skeleton. However, when the sun shines into the cage, the doll's spirit is dancing even while it's body remains immobile. Eventually the sun becomes bright enough to let the doll's spirit and body become one. The woman, now only a skeleton with hair and clothes, takes the doll from the cage and sets her out on the windowsill where she continues to dance in the sunlight. (This is around the point in the song of "Come into my rose shrine") Then at the end of the song, the sun is covered in an eclipse. The woman becomes whole, but the doll loses power and tumbles out the window. The woman gets up and walks away back inside.
